The foundations for the beginning of a company which soon became a leader in the field of buildings in Lazio, were laid by Giuseppe Furlan, its founder, in 1935. Cavalier Furlan had a strong venetian temper, he moved to the Valle del Sacco in the same period when other willing people, belonging to the same region, were called to undertake the land reclamation in the Pianura Pontina. Cavalier Furlan decided to take advantage of his experience in the building field.
The Cavalier’s choice soon showed to be a particularly good one since just in those years a new
settlement was developing half way between Roma and Frosinone, it had a preminent industrial feature,
later it would become a town called Colleferro.
Right here Cavalier Furlan established his building firm
which still now remembers him in its name.
Meanwhile he was pushed to deepen, by means of a self teaching method, his technical – scientific
knowledge in the field by the demands coming from the activity he had undertaken an d by his natural
inclination. In this period he realised the area known as “Casette” in Colleferro, most of the tunnels
used as underground shelters in the war time, the buildings in the area close to the Railway Station,
Vittorio Veneto Cinema, the slaughter – house, etc.
Buildings done in 1958 at Colleferro, a town near Rome, by Cavalier Giuseppe Furlan.
In 1940 he married Aurelia Borsetti, a teacher, who represented an important figure both for the
local growing community and as a strong support for her husband in the private life. From the happy
marriage Giovanna Furlan, their only child, was born in 1941, she would be later alone to lead the
family business.
Soon after the war, Cavalier Furlan with his younger brothers Antonio and Eugenio established a
building firm which profitably worked until its final dissolution in 1957 when Eugenio died.
By them, the going concern, went on growing incessantly. Various buildings for BPD, Calce e
Cementi, as well as for Istituto Autonomo Case Popolari were built in those years in Colleferro.
In 1963 quarrying activity from pozzolana quarries were started and soon developed as a support and functional to the building firm; in 1966 the first installation for concrete production was implemented and in 1968 the calcareous aggregate extraction was started. The investments on the production of prefabricated components showed to be Cavalier Furlan’s another great intuition. Right in that period the system of modular construction was starting to peep in the building field and soon got a considerable spreading. The firm realised many buildings in Colleferro, in the neighbouring towns and in Rome too using the modular construction system. Meanwhile Dr. Luciano Bettiol, Cavalier’s son in law, joined the company, he brought a remarkable contribution to the organisation of a company always aiming to assert itself on the market by offering high competitiveness and high quality standards.
The untimely death of Dr. Bettiol compelled Mrs. Giovanna Furlan to assume the reins of the company from her father, by this time retired, and adapt herself to the demands coming from a numerous family, composed by five children, and from an activity whose tasks are particularly binding. In spite of that the company didn’t stop growing. In addition to the new achievements, interventions in the restoration and restructuring of old, private and public buildings, received a considerable impulse; a modern and equipped medical studio was implemented, it is specialised in the diagnostic by images; an important plug is added to the harmonic mosaic of the firm activities: a transport company.
In 1995 the group started a process of internationalisation, it opened its first building yards abroad, in Germany, and started its first international transports. In the 90s, tanks to the entry of the third generation, an important rationalisation was accomplished by means of incorporations, acquisitions and a forced automation both in the productive process and in the management and control functions. From the same point of view design and service activities was separated and two new societies was implemented: the Teta Progetti S.r.l. and the FURLAN’s S.r.l., to make the most of its know-how outside too, within a quickly developing market. A financial structure, suitable to face always new demands, was created as support to the new strategies.
Faithful to the tested philosophy of the company, a Quality Assurance System was started for the driving sectors: buildings, quarrying activities and concrete production; at 2001 beginning the Furlan Giuseppe S.r.l., the In. Ca. Inerti Calcarei S.r.l. and the Edil Conglomerati S.r.l. was certified according UNI EN ISO 9002 and in 2006 it achieved the CE mark for the In.Ca. Inerti Calcarei S.r.l.
Nowadays, besides the attempt of diversification represented by the design society, the services society and the sporting sector – which shows to be perfectly integrated with the other activities – different company work in the same pool, even if they have their own autonomy, they enjoy a perfect synergy and represent a single entity at the disposal of exacting but affectionate customers.
